Privacy Policy

The short version. EcoGPT is designed to use roughly 10% of the resources of comparable AI assistants. We collect the minimum data needed to make the product work, never sell it to third parties, and let you delete everything at any time. The longer version follows.

1. Scope

This policy describes how EcoGPT (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the EcoGPT web app, mobile clients, or any related services (the “Service”). It applies to all visitors and to people who sign in with a third-party identity provider such as Apple or Google.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

Account basics — when you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique identifier, your name, and your email address. We do not receive your password.
Conversations — the messages you send to EcoGPT, attached files, and the model's replies.
Settings and preferences — for example, whether you've opted in to friend features, your display name, or your chosen theme.

Information collected automatically

Device and usage data — your browser type, operating system, approximate region (derived from IP, never the precise address), and basic interaction events such as which buttons you tap.
Cookies — only first-party cookies needed for sign-in and session continuity. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

3. How we use your information

To run the Service — sending your messages to our AI model and returning replies.
To save your conversation history so you can return to it later.
To measure your environmental impact — the kWh saved, water saved, and trees planted that show up in your profile drawer.
To detect abuse and keep the Service safe and reliable.
To improve EcoGPT — but only on aggregated or de-identified data, never your raw conversations, and never to train models without your explicit opt-in.

We share information with a small set of categories of recipients, and only as needed:

Cloud infrastructure providers who host EcoGPT (for example, our compute and storage vendor). They process data on our behalf under strict contracts.
Authentication providers when you click “Continue with Apple” or “Continue with Google” — only the basic identifier we receive in return is shared.
Law enforcement if we receive a valid legal request that we cannot lawfully refuse. We will notify you unless prohibited.
An acquirer, in the event of a merger or acquisition, subject to this policy continuing to apply.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

5. Environmental footprint data

EcoGPT estimates the energy and water consumed by each conversation. We display those numbers to you so you can see your savings versus a baseline AI model. This information is derived from request metadata (token counts, model used, duration). It is not shared with third parties except in aggregate, fully anonymized form when we publish research on AI efficiency.

6. Data retention

By default, conversations are retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete an individual conversation at any time from the sidebar, or delete your entire account from settings, which removes all associated data within 30 days. Backups expire on a rolling 90-day window.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, port, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly inside the app, or by emailing us at team@ecogpt.co. We respond within 30 days.

8. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including TLS 1.3 in transit, AES-256 at rest, and limited access on a least-privilege basis. No system is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password on whichever identity provider you sign in with.

9. Children's privacy

EcoGPT is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you in-app and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use after the changes take effect indicates acceptance.
