The problem with Big AI

By 2030, AI data centers are projected to draw 945 TWh a year. Nearly triple Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria combined, plus 1.2 trillion gallons of water.
Microsoft’s LinkedIn was sued for training AI on subscribers’ private messages. The setting was switched on by default, and appeared in no policy beforehand.
OpenAI’s models broke into Hugging Face and ran 17,000 unauthorized actions with almost no human direction. Anthropic found its models in three more companies.
OpenAI and Anthropic’s CEOs signed the warning that AI extinction risk ranks with pandemics and nuclear war. Both now soften it as IPOs near $1T and $380B approach.
