Alibaba Cloud's own data centres reach 73.6% clean electricity as net emissions fall 4.6%
Alibaba's FY2026 ESG report puts group clean electricity at 62.2%, Alibaba Cloud's self-built data centres at 73.6% (+9.6 points) and net Scope 1+2 emissions at 2.296 Mt, down 4.6% — while a RMB 380 billion AI build-out is under way.
Alibaba's fiscal-2026 report (April 2025 to March 2026) shows the clean-electricity share at Alibaba Cloud's own data centres rising 9.6 points to 73.6%, with the group at 62.2%. Net emissions of 2.296 million tonnes were 4.6% lower than the year before, continuing the trend from FY2025's 5.0% cut and 52.2% clean share.
The improvement lands in the middle of the largest private computing investment in Chinese history: RMB 380 billion (≈$52 billion) over three years for cloud and AI infrastructure, more than Alibaba spent in the previous decade. The company has said it is rationing GPU access to meet demand for Qwen and its cloud customers.
Alibaba still publishes no water-use effectiveness, no AI-specific energy and no training emissions for Qwen, whose open weights allow independent measurement.
