Tencent's renewable share jumps to 48.5%, with owned data centres at 82.9%

Tencent's Carbon Neutrality Mid-Term Report shows renewable electricity rising from 22.0% in 2024 to 48.5% in 2025, 82.9% at the data centres it owns, with 6.5 billion kWh of green power procured since 2021 and average PUE at 1.246 under a 1.25 cap.

Tencent set its 2030 targets in 2022: a 70% absolute cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 30% cut in Scope 3 from a 2021 baseline, plus 100% green power. The mid-term report published in 2026 shows the renewable share more than doubling in a year, to 48.5% company-wide and 82.9% at owned data centres, backed by more than 6.5 billion kWh of cumulative green-power purchases and 80 MW of on-site generation built or under construction.

Average PUE at owned data centres was 1.246, within the company's 1.25 cap; its modular T-Block design reaches as low as 1.06. Tencent says emissions have "stabilised" despite rising AI load, and in late 2025 it cut capital spending 24% because export rules limited the GPUs it could buy — saying it had "sufficient" reserves for training.

The report publishes no water-use effectiveness and nothing AI-specific; the last full inventory in English, for 2022, was 5.74 MtCO₂e.
